1988-2001 Dopo tredici anni la Città della Quintana prosegue un discorso, quello sul costume storico, al quale "Segni Barocchi" dedicò dal 1984 al 19881 quattro mostre e un incontro di studio. Di quello sforzo, "La società in costume: giostre e tornei nell'Italia di antico regime"2 ha senz'altro costituito la punta avanzata sia sotto il profilo della ricerca sia per l'assenza di analoghe iniziative sul tema. Sulla scia di quelle esperienze, negli stessi anni, si giunse ad ipotizzare la costituzione di un museo dalle forti valenze dinamiche e spettacolari, dedicato ad un'espressione del passato ricca di molteplici significati. Nel 1995, per iniziativa dell'Ente Giostra della Quintana, l'idea iniziale si strutturò in un vero e proprio progetto per l'istituzione, a Foligno, di un Museo Multimediale dei Tornei, delle Giostre e dei Giochi. All'inizio del 2000, grazie all'attivazione di fondi comunitari, il progetto ha preso avvio, e uno dei primi risultati è anche "Giostre e Tornei: dalle Mostre al Museo", momento informativo su quanto si è cominciato a realizzare, ma anche conferma ad un lavoro che si fonda sulla consapevolezza delle grandi potenzialità di quanto effettuato in occasione delle passate mostre. Basti solo pensare che le individuazioni documentarie "prodotte" superano le 1500 unità. Ecco quindi questa prima iniziativa volta a richiamare I'attenzione sulla qualità di questo nucleo documentario e a rivelarne il valore in un allestimento che anticipa la fisionomia del Museo. Che vuol dire proporre, in forme comunicative sintetiche ed aggiornate, le linee guida della mostra "La società in costume: giostre e tornei nell'Italia di antico regime", e avviare così prime concrete esperienze tematiche multimediali. Grazie infatti all'utilizzo di strumenti informatici si potrà effettuare una "visita" completa della mostra nella sua edizione originale (1986), oltreché proporre un ampio affaccio, via Internet, sulla realtà attuale di questo tipo di manifestazioni. 1 "Il costume e l'immagine pittorica nel Seicento umbro", mostra, Foligno, 1984. Jousts and Tournaments 1988-2001 After 13 years, the city that is home to the Giostra della Quintana has begun again to discuss historic costumes. The Segni Barocchi Festival, between 1984 and 19881, dedicated a cycle of four exhibitions and one study meeting to this topic. Undoubtedly the most important and advanced one of these events was the exhibition "Society in Costume: jousts and tournaments in the Italy of the ancient regime"2. It showed the best research work, regarding both quantity and quality of identified materials, and it exceeded all other initiatives on this topic by far in size. In the wake of these experiences some people during the same period began to think about the creation of a museum with strong dynamic and performance oriented characteristics, able to form a permanent forum for history's varied expressions. In 1995 the Giostra della Quintana Association initiated more concrete thoughts about the museum: plans were drawn up for a Multimedia Museum for Historic Tournaments, Jousts and Games. In 2000, with the help of EU funds, the museum project was formally initiated. One of the first results of this is: Jousts and Tournaments - from Exhibitions to the Museum, an initiative to provide information about the current state of planning and implementation. At the same time, the event wants to underline and reconfirm the initiation of a project that is based on the great potential of conceptual research and planning, carried out during the exhibitions of the past (it should be sufficient here to stress that in the past more than 1500 pieces of documentation materials were identified). This initiative aims to attract more attention to the importance and quality of the existing documentation materials. It also wants to show the extent to which the materials can be useful when put into the proper functional information framework of a museum. One aspect of this will be to describe in a concise and updated form the main thematic lines of the exhibition "Society in Costume: jousts and tournaments in the Italy of the ancient regime", thus opening the way for first concrete multimedia experiences on this topic. Prima comunicazione. Dei 337 soggetti che costituiscono la mostra nella sua versione originaria, se ne propongono in questa occasione 38. La presenza di quattro Touchme (dispositivi informatici) al centro di alcuni pannelli, permetterà l'accesso alle intere sequenze di immagini relative alle otto sezioni della mostra. Al termine del percorso espositivo, inoltre, una postazione informativa renderà possibili ulteriori approfondimenti e la conoscenza, tramite il sito Internet del Museo, delle manifestazioni italiane ed estere connesse a giostre e tornei. From the 337 subjects that were part of the original exhibition, 38 are being presented. The presence of four touch-me devices (computerised devises), located at the centre of some panels, will provide access to an entire sequence of images relating to the exhibition's eight sections. At the end of the exhibition area, there will be another information point to provide more in-depth documentation.
